NERF Guns and Darts at Austins

NERF is a toy brand created by Parker Brothers and currently owned by the American multi-national toy company Hasbro – one of the largest toy makers in the world. Based on an indoor volleyball game designed by Reyn Guyer, Parker Brothers introduced the “world’s first official indoor ball” called the Nerf Ball in 1970. A Nerf Ball that you can throw indoors and “you can’t damage lamps or break windows. You can’t hurt babies or old people!”

NERF stands for Non-Expanding Recreational Foam and most of the NERF toys are foam-based weaponry. However, there are several other types of Nerf toys, such as the Nerf Sports range of footballs and basketballs. The most famous Nerf toys are the dart guns (referred to as “blasters” by Hasbro) that shoot ammunition made from Nerf foam. Since many such items were released throughout the 1970’s, Nerf toys often feature neon bright colours. The slogan for NERF product advertising is “It’s Nerf or nothin’!”

Nerf blasters are the most popular toys at the moment. They are toy guns that shoot foam darts, balls or arrows. The Nerf Blaster line consists of N-Strike, Dart Tag and Vortex. The Nerf N-Strike lines are so popular that the Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS Blaster won the coveted “Boy Toy of the Year” at the 2011 Toy of the Year Awards in New York. Then there is the Nerf N-Force range which consists of swords and melee weapons made of the same Nerf material. These include the Vendetta Double Sword, Thunder Fury Broadsword and the Warlock Battleaxe to name but a few. The swords fit into the back of the Nerf N-Strike tactical vest.

The Nerf Super Soaker Blaster is a very popular line of water guns designed to cause havoc on hot Summer days! This range is such a favourite amongst children and adults alike that the Nerf Super Soaker Shot Blast won “Outdoor Toy of the Year” at the 2011 Annual Toy of the Year Awards in New York.
