Wolsey

In a world where competition is fierce and consumer loyalty wanes by the season, there are very few businesses which can claim to have a history covering more than 250 years. However, Wolsey is such a business. Innovation in manufacturing, design, marketing and selling has enabled customers, sportsmen and even the household of the British Royal family to enjoy the benefits of Wolsey clothes and accessories. Henry and Ann Wood began an enterprise in 1755 in Leicester manufacturing knitted hosiery but it was not until 1897 that the company was registered as Wolsey (named after Cardinal Wolsey who was buried in Leicester). Wolsey’s heritage and status within the textile industry has been built on design and quality attributes that remain integral to the business today. And whilst the Wolsey brand is truly international in its inspiration and design, sourcing, quality control and distribution is still something they proudly handle from their original base in the City of Leicester.
Wolsey also owns the brand, “Morley”, which is sold exclusively in Hong Kong. Mr Antony Luk first started selling Morley to major department stores in the early 1970s. Its initial success was based on 100% pure wool garments which were widely accepted because of the reputation of British knitting methods and the use of high quality pure merino wool. Today, the business is represented by Mr Luk’s daughters, and besides the pure wool underwear series, Morley has developed other ranges in men’s thermals, cotton underwear, knitwear and socks.
