Description

Commemorate the 90th anniversary of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire’s first flight with this beautifully illustrated 250XL-piece jigsaw puzzle by artist Matthew Emeny. Set on a warm spring day in 1940, just months before the Battle of Britain, this evocative scene captures a moment of peace and wonder in the Cambridgeshire countryside.

A mother and her four children enjoy a tranquil picnic, watching steam trains pass by; a comforting distraction while her husband serves in the war. As a J15 Class LNER steam locomotive approaches, excitement erupts when three Mk1 Spitfires from RAF Duxford’s No.19 Squadron soar low overhead. The eldest son points skyward in awe, adding a thrilling twist to their train spotting afternoon.

Leading the formation is the historic Spitfire Mk.1 “N3200,” flown by Squadron Leader Geoffrey Stephenson. This aircraft played a vital role in the Dunkirk evacuation before being damaged and buried on Sangatte beach in May 1940. Recovered in 1986 and restored at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, N3200 triumphantly returned to the skies in 2014. This puzzle is perfect for aviation enthusiasts, history lovers, and anyone who appreciates nostalgic British countryside scenes.

Piece together a story of courage, heritage, and family, brought to life through stunning artwork and rich historical detail.

Our extra-large range is made with extra love! The pieces in our 250 XL puzzles are double the size of those in our 500 and 1000 piece puzzles. This makes them perfect for those who find larger piece counts too tricky, or those who are suffering with sight or handling difficulties.
